sam/tim day i'm looking for you to deliver on this one..

i'm trying to get a list of (mostly newport) bands that were around pre-2000 (you know- the days before skinny fit jeans, converse trainers and people looking down their noses at drunkenness)

i've come up with:

-the MP's
-novocaine
-jettison
-hudsen
-borderline
-the five darrans
-DISCO (!)
-strawberry blondes
-janeiro
-8.4%
-subway
-60ft dolls
-the five darrans
-that band with all the staff from speed music in it
-in the shit
-cowboy killers
-dub war

any more?

What was John the Driver's band's name Sam? Or have they been mentioned, think they had a track chosen for the film Interview with a vampire or something.

Skindred (were they pre-2000)

Naked Ape! That was one I knew was floating round my head somewhere! I think that was the new name for Sweater... or vice versa.

John the Driver (although I didn't realise he was called that) was also in Armstrong with me (and Julian and Carpy). Little guy yeah? Joined Strawberry Blondes for a bit too afterwards.

Yeh John was a little guy with (bleached, i think) blonde hair, did'nt know he was in Strawberry Blondes though (learn something new everyday). Disco gave him the adopted name of John the Driver because he used to ship them around to their gigs in "the honk if you bonk" trannys/minibuses.

Yeah I noticed the walls. Looks mint. Also noticed a big blob of white paint on my kick drum case!

Shame about the graffiti. I think my name was up there even from back in the day. Something along the lines of "Jester are shit, Tim Day's alright though"!
Straight up!

Oh btw, why did you want a list of 90's zoo bands? Are you going for the role of 'executive producer' for a nostalgia compilation??

Reading this brought back so many great memories and I remember working with a lot of these bands, I was involved at Disgraceland rehearsal rooms for a while, good times eh?

What was that band that used to come down from the valleys, the one guy lived in a double decker bus! Blizzard rings a bell.

Skin'd Lizrd was my own band, doubt anyone remembers us, we weren't together that long. I know that our bassist and drummer are in a new band called Mulch now (Newport/Swansea) and the bassist is also in Desecration and guitarist Biaggi is now in A Theory Of, not sure if they're still going though.

There was that Kiss tribute band too, I remember that Steve Hardley played lead guitar for them, didn't know many of the others. And of course we must remmeber Clipper!

Jet Heavy is another one that comes to mind, man that was years ago, it all seems to be coming flooding back!

Bring back 60Ft Dolls!

There should be some kind of campaign for them to reform. The Big 3 is one of the best debut albums I've ever heard.
