  1.  So, I moved away the best part of 15 years ago now, with a brief stint in Zooport for 6 months with my ex partner around 10...

    I’ve only been back to Cardiff a handful of times since, and I literally didn’t recognise the city centre at all, so much so I was lost at times in and around the extended St. David’s shopping mall, and when I had a little look for a greasy spoon that used to be by the bus station in Newport, I discovered that that part of town was also drastically different now...

     AAAND, in an apt way, I started watching a series on the BBC last night about a group of vegans descending upon Merthyr, only to have them say it was a new hub of up and coming independent businesses, and was on the rise... what the fuck!?

    So, is South Wales really massively different these days, or is it just a case of Emperors New Clothes? Obviously the people are still the best there is 😘

    Nuke it from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.

    I'm so glad we never released the second recording.

    Coincidentally, anyone seen or heard from andy in the last few years? is he still alive?

     Veego Andy? I believe he was based in Bristol, but is now further afield- I want to say Manchester, but don’t take that as gospel... was in a band called No Sleep who were cool. Bumped into him on tour/at shows once or twice Over the years.

  3. I’ve watched a few movies the last week;

    Kickboxer: Vengeance - A bit shit, but in a good, cheesy way. Criminal lack of JCVD kicking arse.

    Midsommar - Nicely shot, and not a bad movie by any stretch, but I found it a bit underwhelming. I also didn’t like any of the characters, but I wasn’t sure if you were supposed to? Interested to know what everyone else thought.

    The Night Eats The World - French zombie movie, lovely stuff with lots of nice camerawork and editing, and fittingly quite poignant at the moment. Very much enjoyed it.

  4. I’ve not, but I’ll check it out.

    The Royal Tenenbaums almost took the spot in place of Rushmore, but I think even though it’s technically a better movie, it doesn’t have quite as much charm. And it’s always going to have that link with American Nightmare for me, which is a bonus...

  5. Also, Totem Skin - we put these guys on down here and they were incredible; mixing punk, hardcore, d-beat, crust etc etc... they were I think being courted by Deathwish for their third album, but broke up before it’s release;

  6. Criminally underrated band you may have heard of already from the North East called Geist - angry, scrappy hardcore with more than a few nods to Cursed (Chris does guest vocals on the album...);

  7. I think like a lot of places, most bands are only interested in playing it safe to the bigger crowds - it seems to be that London, Leeds/Manchester, Glasgow and Birmingham are the top tier, with places like Bristol and Southampton being next up - I was involved with putting on shows in Plymouth for a good 5-6 years until the kids came along, and it got increasingly difficult to book bands, coupled with the fact that so many venues here and across the country are closing, it doesn’t make for a thriving scene unfortunately.

     I think the way people consume music has changed the way things are massively as well - I recently had a conversation with an 18 year old who’s literally never even bought an album or been to a live show, because “everything’s online”. Granted they were more into “mainstream” music, and that’s only one example, but it was quite an eye opener for me.

  8. I’m wracking my brains as to who it could have been - they used to buy them in the Tesco on Albany Road, so it was definitely someone Roath based. I’m drawing a blank though - strange the things you remember and forget.

  9. Last show I went to in Cardiff was Turnstile at The Globe, 5 years ago! I’ve not lived in SW for over a decade now, but Connors was there, just before he went worldwide, and he was the only person I recognised from the old days.

     I know there’s still a hardcore scene to speak of, with a label/distro called Nuclear Family who I’ve done some design work for in the past, but I couldn’t tell you much more to be honest. Strangely, I mostly seem to bump into old faces at shows in other parts of the country.

    Must have been the posh vegan custard creams I found, I've never bought bourbons that weren't the cheapo 'vegan by default' versions from corner shops.

    Maybe I’m mis remembering then, but someone on here definitely used to buy the expensive as shit bourbons until Sam or Hywel were like “what are you doing ya prannet, the cheap ones are vegan!”.
