  1. Best one I heard was that the world is in lockdown because someone almost reached the end of the flat earth, and so now nobody can travel or the secret of the flat earth would be exposed.

  2. Nah brah, SWM's back. I never went anywhere.

  3. Better Call Saul is the best thing around atm. This season especially is better than Breaking Bad even. Bob Odenkirk is absolutely killing it. He's phenomenal.

  4. Nice, I'm gonna check that out. Thanks Coach. Ha, as I was reading this I was like 'Im sure that's the one I went to' and remembering seeing you at the end. They were always a fun band to see, and always been bummed I've not seen them play anywhere local here. I think the main thing that made me sad in the early 2010s when SWM started to fade was that it wasn't replaced by something newer, and better by young kids who had the energy and enthusiasm to do such things. I would've totally been on board with that, hell it would've probably spurred some joke war between sites or somethi

  5. New Deftones record is good, to zero surprise. Looking forward to listening to it on my speakers rather than tinny headphones.

  8. It's difficult to argue outside of RD and PF from a pure cinema point of view I guess. Outside of those I reckon I'd go Inglorious and then Hollywood.

  10. If we're talking Eisenberg, I was stood a few feet away from him at a party last year. We did not make eye contact and I did not speak to him. <anecdote ends>

  20. I'm pretty awful at actively looking for new music. My maxim is basically that all the best records have already been made, and I'm still discovering things from the 60s - 90s as my "new" music. But now that I'm in a band again and follow our label on Instagram, I'm getting to see that there are in fact still really good records being made. So I guess this can be a thread for recommendations of new albums, as they come out that really make you joyous. My first is Modern Rituals new album This Is The History. I'm immediately obsessed with it. Super clever heavy alt-rock vibes. It occasion

  23. Ha, yeah live MMA events are definitely a thing to enjoy for a multitude of reasons. I remember scoring a few tickets for Valley of Kings for doing a bit of promo on here. The main memory of the night was a dude coming out dressed as Inspector Gadget complete with a dubstep version of the theme, and promptly getting knocked out so hard he had to be wheelchaired off. https://www.tapology.com/fightcenter/events/9631-vok-1 Used to go to a few down in Cardiff Bay too, was tempted to go to Bare Knuckle Fight Club here a few months back until I found out it wasn't just a clever name and d

  24. That's in my next batch of shows to get through once I clear some current ones out, he soured me with the Chris Brown thing a bit but heard good things about the show. UFC Fight Island is on Saturday, so I've reserved some beers and low expectations for that.

  27. I don't like this new thing of wacky far out shows about like intergalactic time travelling dysfunctional families or whatever. Rick and Morty wasn't that funny, but they said everything very quickly and angrily so I guess that's what they're going for.

  29. Yeah Ark is what I was referring to. I've had a copy but never could bring myself to watch it. The story of how it was made was interesting though, and maybe one day I'll give it a shot. I have the first two DAU films which sound... I dunno. They sound something.

  31. Yeah T2 is my other big action movie that I usually list, it's just so good. Blew my mind as a kid watching it on Sky Movies after getting the all clear from my dad. Hadn't seen the first, so had to go and get a copy of that afterwards. That pretty much opened the floodgates of all the 80s Arnie movies and the like, most of which were getting ITV saturday night treatments at the time. Then going out and buying the VHS copies to see the 'uncut' (lol right) versions. FMJ is my favourite war movie, and despite my love for it I'm pretty good at forgetting most of the details so whenever I wat

  32. It was on there fairly recently. A top 5 would be difficult for me but I think maybe 1. Jaws. I can't even explain why I love it si much. I just do. 2. Full Metal Jacket (I only watched this properly fairly recently and I loved it) 3. Jurassic Park (nostalgia playing a big part here) 4. Hunt for the Wilderpeople 5. Pan's Labyrinth You could probably stick something like Terminator 2 in there somewhere because I will happily watch it over and over and not get sick of it. My tastes aren't particularly highbrow.

  33. Ugh I hate doing this, because how I feel about movies is often based on when I saw them (nostalgia playing a big part). Unordered pick of 5 that I've given 5* to on letterboxd (which is 32 films out of 1,608 films, as I can be so incredibly stingy and my ratings probably make sense to nobody) x. Dazed and Confused x. City of God x. Spinal Tap x. Aliens x. Whiplash Some basic choices from a basic guy. Needs more shot in realtime Russian art movies.

  36. Also, Totem Skin - we put these guys on down here and they were incredible; mixing punk, hardcore, d-beat, crust etc etc... they were I think being courted by Deathwish for their third album, but broke up before it’s release;

  37. Criminally underrated band you may have heard of already from the North East called Geist - angry, scrappy hardcore with more than a few nods to Cursed (Chris does guest vocals on the album...);

  38. Kai here - I was a very young, impressionable teenager when I was last around here. I was in some South Wales bands - Young Prisoners, Freeze Up, All Washed Up, Solutions (remember the Against Nick! furore, I'm about 90% sure he was on the New Years honours list for services to the Home Office - but he went through some serious shit at the time. I see him sometimes and he's a top gent) and then Goodtime Boys. I left, became a German teacher, lived in the South East for a while and taught at a grammar school, aaand now I live in Berlin with my lovely Californian wife and teach English and Germa

  43. It's almost as if a single person with a questionable taste in music and a myopic sense of what the South Wales "scene" was/is gave it about 25 seconds of thought. Was anyone else's curiosity piqued enough to have a look at what "young hollywood clothing" was? Spoiler alert, they're boring t-shirts for douchebags modelled by instagram whores.

  45. Most the gigs I've bought tickets for this year have been for bands touring and the closest they've got to S Wales is Bristol. So mostly going there (or that was the plan).... it's no different for distance to me travelling to a gig in Swansea for me so not a real issue but would be nice to not have to go that far. Don't regularly attend anywhere in Cardiff like I use to, will go to The Moon if there's band on I like but as others have said it's not great for bands now it's only downstairs. Even rarer that there's anything in Fuel / Clwb that I'd want to attend.

  46. I dunno what the SW scene is anymore. Doom was big for ages but that seems to have died down. Noel is still plugging away doing a million gigs under various guises though! Agreed that the Moon is a terrible venue, but I’ve seen some great bands in there in recent years as it seems to be the only place of its size to accommodate a lot of touring bands. I mostly go to gigs in Bristol though. The back room in Rough Trade is a nice little venue.
